Improvements to Marshals Warrant Cards for 2025

Changes to warrant cards allow for recognition and enable progression for marshals

Over the winter, lots of work has been going on behind the scenes to review feedback and look for ways to improve the marshalling experience. In direct response to the feedback many of you gave (by completing our survey) regarding developing and progressing in the role of marshal, and from Chief Sector Marshals who wanted a quick and easy way to understand the level of experience within their teams without having to rely on technology, we have revised the details and colours of the warrant cards for 2025.

We are therefore automatically upgrading yellow novice marshals to white marshal cards where they have 10 or more race sessions in recognition of their experience. In addition, we are introducing a new green card to identify marshals that are in possession of a current Incident Management Course at event, representing the most experienced level of full marshal out on the track.

Warrant cards will be enhanced to have a three-letter abbreviation and colour corresponding to the level of experience and training a marshal has as follows:.

NOV (Yellow): Novice Marshal – somebody who is brand new to marshalling on the TT Mountain Course and has less than 10 sessions on the TT course.

MAR (White): Marshal – anyone who has completed at least 10 sessions of marshalling .

IMC (Green): IMC Trained Marshal – any marshal who has completed the required number of sessions and also attended an Incident Management Course within the last three years.

DSM (Blue): Deputy Sector Marshal – an experienced marshal nominated by a CSM and  who has undertaken the necessary training to ensure they have the ability to lead a team of marshals at various points around the course.

CSM (Orange): Chief Sector Marshal – a marshal who has proven experience marshalling the TT Course as well as the necessary attributes to both oversee a Sector through leadership of the DSMs to ensure smooth running of racing and practice sessions, and also works as part of the wider leadership team outside of race periods to ensure the entire TT Mountain Course is prepared and staffed to allow racing to happen.

TM (Orange): Travelling Marshal.

You will also see TTMA staff wearing teal coloured cards with ADM to show they are Administration support – we realise that not everyone knows faces, so if you call in to see us at the Grandstand this will help you identify the team!

We have also taken on board feedback about lanyards potentially getting in the way and used this opportunity to redesign the cards to sit in the clear pocket on the tabards we introduced in 2024, thus avoiding the need to wear a lanyard.

If you are interested in finding out more about progressing as a marshal through training and gaining wider experience, please do contact us and we’ll be happy to provide advice and guidance. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you all signing up and collecting your new cards!
